ASRock has announced a new motherboard offering users an impressive 22Gbps networking experience. The new motherboard is called the ASRock X99 WS-E/10G and was launched yesterday.
To achieve the headlining 22Gbps of networking bandwidth users of the ASRock X99 WS-E/10G must utilise all four of the built-in Ethernet ports in quad-LAN 'Teaming' mode. This "motherboard, workstation board hybrid," is equipped with Dual Intel 10G BASE-T LAN ports powered by an Intel X540 Ethernet controller chip, plus Dual Intel gigabit LAN ports powered by two Intel I210AT Ethernet controller chips.
ASRock explains how its new motherboard achieves its networking speeds; "What makes ASRock X99 WS-E/10G so fast is the onboard Intel X540 Ethernet controller. This single chip is capable of supporting dual 10G BASE-T LAN ports, which are ten times faster than your ordinary gigabit LAN and usually only seen on server boards." The firm adds that this motherboard would be a good choice for those wishing to build a small server or workstation.
Perhaps unfortunately ASRock's marketing department claims that the fast networking on offer could help users stick it to "those malevolent internet providers," and help you improve your internet speed. However the motherboard is obviously suitable for other taxing networking scenarios.
Beyond its networking capabilities ASRock has kitted the X99 WS-E/10G with plenty of enthusiast features which include:
- 4-Way SLI/CrossFireX (x16/16/16/16)
- 7x PCIe slots
- 'Luxurious' 12 Power Phase Design, plus Super Alloy
- Ultra Thin Design to Fit 1U Chassis
- LGA 2011-3 CPU support
- Support for as much as 128GB, UDIMM/RDIMM memory modules up to 3200+(OC)
- 12x SATA3 ports, 1 SATA Express 10Gb/s connector, 1 PCIe Gen2 x4 M.2 slot
