ASUS' recent refresh of its Bamboo series of notebooks - the 13.3in U33 and 15.6in U53 models - are heading for a UK launch.

Furthering its use of environmentally-friendly bamboo for the exterior chassis, ASUS has honed in on the use of natural smoky bamboo to reduce the usage of plastics by roughly 15%. The company stresses that for all the eco-friendly credentials attributed to this renewable source of wood material, bamboo equally cements its suitability thanks to inherent durability and robustness properties. Easy-on-the-eye brushed aluminium is married up with the natural individuality of bamboo, to deliver a notebook that will be aesthetically unique to its siblings.

Internally, ASUS relies on the power of Intel's Core i5-430M 2.26GHz Arrandale CPU to deliver a harmonious union between form and function. Both models are fleshed out with a 1,366x768 resolution display, 4GB DDR3 RAM and NVIDIA Optimus technology - enabling intelligent-switching between discrete NVIDIA GeForce 310M and, integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics capabilities. Between 500GB and 640GB of hard drive storage and a DVD Super-Multi Drive, are parts of the bundle - dependent on the model chosen.

Continuing the green theme, ASUS' Super Hybrid Engine technology seamlessly monitors performance levels to deliver maximum performance, as required, whilst also intuitively saving battery consumption during less-tasking usage. Additionally, it is claimed that this results in reduced CO2 emissions and, a quoted battery life of up-to 10 hours, between charges.

Integrated webcam and USB 3.0 support bring up the back-end of ASUS' bundle and reassurance comes as standard, with a 2-year global collect & return warranty.

Expect the U33 and U53 to be available soon, at £849 and £899 respectively, including VAT.
