Nvidia has announced a new bundle campaign today, for buyers of its GeForce GTX 650 or above series of graphics cards. The bundle is entitled the Nvidia Gear Up Free 2 Play Bundle and is focussed upon helping buyers enjoy the best paid-for extras in some of the most popular F2P (free 2 play) games around; Planetside 2, World of Tanks and Hawken. From today buyers of GeForce GTX 650 or above cards “will receive up to £100 of in-game value to use”. (up to $150 in the US)

The press release from Nvidia reminds us that F2P is a successful games business model which is definitely on the up. Many of the top F2P titles are as demanding in the 3D hardware side of things as any other AAA title and are able to take advantage of NVIDIA PhysX and 3D Vision technologies. However, according to the recent Steam Hardware Survey; “over 36 million gamers don’t meet the recommended specs”. So Nvidia wants you to upgrade your graphic card and it will, in turn, upgrade your in-game experiences and your account balances.

The games where you can receive credit are as follows:

  • Planetside 2 – One of the highest scoring game on Metacritic in 2012. The game is demanding, and requires a high end graphics cards (similar to what you would need to play the likes of Crysis 3 or Far Cry 3).
  • World of Tanks – one of the biggest games out there and a big cultural phenomenon, requiring a mid-range GPU to run the game at 1080p.
  • Hawken – powered by PhysX, this title also requires high end graphics hardware for 1080p play, in order to receive stunning visuals and ground-breaking gameplay.

As we wrote in the introduction, Nvidia’s bundle is available from today in the UK and US. We know that, in the UK, retailer Scan is participating in the promotion. Once you have your new graphics card and in-game cash voucher code you can redeem it here (UK buyers).

What do readers think of Nvidia’s new F2P in-game cash promotion? Is it a good response to AMD’s Never Settle: Reloaded games bundle for Radeon HD 7800 or better graphics cards, announced last week?

No really i will

only really an incentive if you're an avid player of one of those games already (which I'm not though I've heard WoT is good)
Can't see it appealing to the gaming masses, not as much as crysis 3! (and bioshock infinite)
Complete fail Nvidia, here we have AMD with less expensive GPU's and they are banging out the latest titles for free with them, Nvidia rolls in with naff in game credit for F2P titles, cheapskates. I know who would be getting my cash if I required a new GPU, and it aint Nvidia.
Can't help but think there's something wrong with those FPS numbers, for example, in WoT I get a higher FPS on my 560 Ti than what they show for the 650 Ti. I understand they haven't shown the full spec of the PC, but still a bit odd.
