Recently, AMD released the latest iteration of its unified Catalyst driver series, version 12.2, bringing with it for the first time support for the Radeon HD 7900, 7770 and 7300-OEM series of graphics cards.
Initially, the driver will only support Windows Vista and Windows 7, with support for both Windows XP and the Radeon HD 7800 series of graphics cards arriving in the upcoming Catalyst 12.4 release.
The new drivers offer support for Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing (SSAA) on HD 7900 and 7770 series graphics cards, providing the user with the ability to enable either Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing or Adaptive Anti-Aliasing (AAA) for DirectX 10 and 11 applications through the Catalyst Control Centre, though, the application must have native support for Anti-Aliasing as the feature can not be forced.
The Eyefinity experience has been bolstered to now support a range of custom resolutions, with the system able to automatically switch between configurations as displays are physically connected and disconnected, with it now possible to wrap various configurations up into multiple profiles. It is now also possible to move and resize the Windows Taskbar.
Perhaps most importantly, are bug fixes for some of the latest titles, along with the usual, much appreciated, Crossfire bug fixes. Amongst these titles are HAWX, Modern Warfare 3, Dragon Age 2, Battleforge, Battlefield, Bad Company 2, Batman: Arkham City and Dirt 3. Support for Hardware Accelerated 3D BluRay playback has now also been fixed.
