If you own a graphics card from the AMD stable, and are perhaps planning a weekend of gaming, you may want to take a look at the Catalyst 11.10 Version 3 preview drivers.

Whilst the official Catalyst 11.10 drivers are set to go live on October 31st, the Version 3 preview drivers are said to be virtually the same.

Here's what AMD tells us to expect:

  • Reduces random crashing and stability encountered when playing Rage on Windows® 7 32-bit edition.
  • Reduces object / animation flickering and texture corruption encountered when playing Rage.
  • Reduces stuttering seen on Dual CPU and Tri CPU core systems.
  • Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on single GPU configurations using the AMD RadeonTM HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 series of products.
  • Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on AMD CrossFireTM configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 series of products.
  • Improves performance in Rage on single GPU configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 6000, AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series and AMD Radeon HD 4000 series of products.
  • Reduces intermittent crashing seen loading levels in Rage.
  • Reduces flickering of NPCs in Rage.
  • Enables automatic Vsync for Rage.
  • Enables support for AMD Eyefinity 5x1 display (portrait and landscape) configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 series of products.
  • AMD Vision Engine Control Center: User Interface enhancements have been implemented for the AMD CrossfireXTM, GPU.
  • AMD OverdriveTM and Information Center pages.

If you fancy having a dabble, Windows 7 and Vista users can head this way. If you happen to be using Windows XP, you can head this way.

hopefully nvidia has something similar out before bf3 next week, be nice to get some extra fps!
non-beta version of the drivers, 24th October

confirmed by ManuelG at Nvidia
Tried them and maybe a little bit better on my Radeon 5750 - still getting some texture popping on Rage but not quite so much as the Rage emergency fix drivers of a week ago.. Texture quality seems a little better too although some of the video settings on Rage had oddly reset themselves after the install.
This has FINALLY fixed my issues with Rage - now runs like a dream with everything cranked up!
Thanks for this, otherwise wouldn't have noticed, have been having a few issues with Rage on my 6950.
