Anyone fancy a -100⁰C CPU core?

HEXUS @ CeBIT 2007 ABIT’s Peter du Perez was busy unbolting what has to be the most extreme cooling solution we’ve ever seen short of liquid nitrogen and all in the name of chasing world records.

This triple cascade cooler was designed and built by an American air conditioning engineer and then lent to ABIT for the world record attempt which will be made over the next few days.

Now this is some serious kit which is essentially three coolers in one. Known as a triple cascade cooler, this uses standard phase change to chill the coolant which then chills more coolant which then chills the CPU block. The trick is to use the right coolant for the temperature range the coolant will have to operate in... which is tricky, however the builder reckons this can drop the CPU blokc to as much as -100⁰C...

As we spoke to Peter he was still unbolting the cascade from its transport pallet, so check back soon to see what happened the first time they powered it up on the ABIT booth. HEXUS @ CeBIT 2007
