Unsurprisingly, component makers love it when overclockers break records with their products, which is perhaps why Corsair was so happy to let us know about the pair who have just set a new world record on the MaxxMem benchmark.

Using 4GB of the company's Dominator GT DDR3 memory, splmann and Mat - or Roger Tanner and Matthias Zronek to their friends - managed an impressive score of 2,711.5 marks, which was eight per cent faster than the previous record of 2502.4. Impressively, it didn't require any exotic cooling beyond the stock heatsink to crank the frequency up to 1,148.2MHz (2,296.4MHz effective) with timings of CL7-7-6-21, although it did take around 1.87V through the memory.

The rest of the system comprised an ASUS P8P67 WS Revolution motherboard with Intel's Core i7 2600K water-cooled and overclocked to 5,489MHz.

It sounds like the pair could have gone even faster, too, but the memory started to fail when the vDimm was set any higher. With better cooling, it's possible that they could have pushed the RAM even harder.

On breaking the record, the pair stated, "we've broken several records with Corsair Dominator GT memory. It's truly outstanding. The reliability and headroom are amazing".

As ever, this record isn't likely to be stand for too long. But, with Corsair memory taking up four of the five top spots on the HWBot rankings, we wouldn't be too surprised to see another Dominator kit take the record next time as well.

More details on these overclocking escapades can be found over on HWBot.
