Aluminium chassis specialist Lian Li has launched a new Mini-ITX chassis. The Lian Li PC-Q21 is said to have the capacity for a "full powered" build, even though it might admittedly be a "tight fit". It will be made available in the UK from early next month priced at £59.90 or thereabouts.

The key features of the Lian Li PC-Q21 Mini-ITX chassis are as follows:

  • Compact Size, tiny footprint
  • 2 expansion slots and room for thicker GPU
  • Options for plentiful HDD or SSD placement; up to 2x 3.5-inch drives or 3x 2.5-inch drives
  • Slim (Slot-load) ODD bay doubles as SSD tray
  • Fully tool-free design

The PC-21 offers many options to someone wishing to build a PC, to make the most of its admittedly limited internal space. The top ODD bay can be used to hold either a slim ODD or an SSD in addition to the space allocated to 2x 3.5-inch drives or 3x 2.5-inch drives. If you don't require the bottom sled mounting of 2 x 2.5-inch drives you can install a 120mm fan in that space or make use of the extra capacity allowing an over sized 2-slot graphics card to be fitted.

The two PCI expansion slots offer more room beneath them than in previous models helping the air flow through the chassis. The system requires an SFX PSU (up to 170mm long). Maximum graphics card length is 170mm and the maximum CPU cooler height is 60mm. On the front of the chassis you have two USB 3.0 sockets and the power button.

Crafted from aluminium, and available in silver or black finishes, the PC-Q21 A/B measures (W) 149mm, (H) 257mm, (D) 224mm and weighs 1.47Kg as supplied.

Lian Li PC-V33

In case you missed it, this time last week the much larger Lian Li PC-V33 was launched. This chassis allows full ATX sized builds and measures (W) 334mm, (H) 352mm, (D) 390mm – almost a cube. It has a two compartment design and, like the PC-Q21, will be made available in early October. The price of this one is £159 (or £189 with tinted glass side Window). I've embedded a video overview, below, for your convenience.

Wow that fat dude really sells it…
I think that's actually a really nice looking case, but I can't help feeling the airflow is going to be too limited with no actual fans. Wouldn't be comfortable relying on an SFX psu to be my main exhaust! Plus the SSD mounts at the bottom are going to suffocate your graphics card if filled…
Personally i would go for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MLU62YU?colid=1Y8SVM5TR8S0A&coliid=I2KLQJ7QOCP6R6&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl by Sharkoon rather than the Q21 … its half the price.

It will very likely be half the build quality too, though to be fair the Lian Li doesn't seem to be that well thought out (which seems to be a common theme with their cases these days). The build quality - materials used and finishing - is top notch though.
Not even a type C exit ?
