(San Francisco, CA – Feb 5, 2007) – Tyan Computer Corporation, a premier designer and manufacturer of computing platforms, is pleased to announce their first non-x86 based platforms, the S6741 and S6791, which utilizes Raza Microelectronics, Inc.®, (RMI®) XLR 700 and XLR 500 series of processors, respectively. These platforms represent a new generation of high performance, cost effective network security appliance platforms.

“By developing the S6741 and S6791 platforms around RMI’s multi-core and multi-threaded XLR processors, Tyan has developed the most feature rich and high performance solutions for advanced network security applications,” said Irene Shih, director of product management, Tyan Computer Corp. “With a family of platforms providing mid to high performance, the S6741 and S6791 satisfies the need for feature rich platforms at varying price points.”

The innovative RMI XLR Processor® architecture supports up to eight MIPS64®-compatible cores for a total of 32 threads or virtual CPUs (vCPUs™). Using multiple threads, the S6741 and S6791 platforms manage tasks by processing additional network traffic on available threads should a thread be waiting for a data or a packet. This technology greatly increases processor utilization and reduces latency to dramatically improve overall throughput. For packet processing-intensive applications, a single core can adjust in realtime the processing resources on a given task.

“By providing feature rich and exceptionally high performance platforms based on the XLR processor, Tyan provides OEMs the ability to build world-class solutions with reduced time to market,” said Mark Litvack, director of business development, RMI. “XLR provides a level of performance and features previously unavailable and Tyan’s S6741 and S6791 platforms provide a family of products scaling in features and performance to address all variations of integrated next generation applications; including integrated security (firewall, VPN, anti-virus, intrusion detection and prevention), web services, virtualized storage, load balancing, server offload and intelligent routing and switching systems.”

Each platform includes an extensive range of peripherals, large caches, and accelerated interconnects around the XLR Processor to deliver a processing solution optimized for maximum throughput and workload efficiency. The S6741 combines the XLR 500 series processor to address mid-range unified threat management systems. It incorporates 6 x 1Gigabit Ethernet ports with LAN-by-pass, PCI-X expansion slots for additional acceleration/compression cards or a LAN card for additional Ethernet ports. The S6791 combines the XLR 700 series processor to address the high-end security appliance market. It can optionally be configured to support up to 14 x 1Gigabit Ethernet ports and has the same expansion capabilities as the S6741.

In addition to the platforms, Tyan also provides a variety of copper and optical interfaces for the platforms.

RMI will be showcasing the S6791 to attendees of RSA San Francisco 2007 in their meeting suites at the W Hotel.
