January 2014 - Solwise are pleased to announce two new discreet access points designed to be housed in a standard single back box. The in-the-wall Access points are ideal for use in a B&B or hotel allowing the hotels to give wired and wireless Internet connections to their guests.
Both versions offer 150Mbps 11n Wireless powered by 802.3af Power over Ethernet. They both have 2 RJ45 ports, one on the front allowing wired access to your guests and one on the rear for PoE. They both also have an RJ11 passthrough port on the front, the Solwise unit having screw terminals on the rear and the Pheenet unit having an RJ11 socket on the back. The Rj11 port can be used for a telephone; you will need an adapter if using a telephone with a standard BT plug.
The Pheenet WAP-3150NP also offers you Multiple SSID/VLAN which allows you to provide multiple wireless networks; this might be useful if you need to isolate guest traffic from the rest of your network. You can allow guest devices to use only some services, such as just the internet.
The WAP-3150NP also can be centrally managed via a Web browser or an SNMP MIB browser or by using PheeNet's Hotspot Controller the WMS-308N also available at Solwise.
Although these in the wall access points are designed for hotels and business premises we have found many people like them for their own homes due to the neat and tidy design of the units.
