Fremont, CA, January 12th, 2004 - Tyan® , today launched the Thunder K8SR (S2881), a dual AMD Opteron™ processor server platform optimized for the 1U and 2U rackmount markets. Utilizing the latest AMD Opteron™ 200 series processors, the Thunder K8SR (S2881) is a powerful server platform with a comprehensive feature set and low profile components to promote maximum airflow and controlled temperature inside a variety of chassis.

The features of the Thunder K8SR (S2881) include eight DIMM slots for up to 16GB of Registered DDR400 memory, two independent PCI-X buses, Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, onboard ATI® RAGE™ XL graphics, four Serial ATA ports with RAID 0, 1, or 10 support, and more.

Besides having a host of competitive features, the Thunder K8SR (S2881) has strategically located components that allow maximum airflow across the motherboard. The onboard components are both low-profile and located in areas where add-on cards and cables are not obstructing the main airflow pathways.

"For expansive memory capabilities, increased performance of high bandwidth devices, and high flexibility in storage options, the Thunder K8SR (S2881) is the best choice for optimal performance in a rackmount," said Danny Hsu, Senior Director of Marketing at Tyan. "Tyan is one of the first manufacturers to design a low-profile server platform for rackmounts, and will continue to produce server solutions with superior engineering quality."

The Thunder K8SR (S2881) is sampling now, and will start shipping in production volume by the middle of the first quarter of 2004.
