PRESS RELEASE

TAIPEI, Taiwan, September 20, 2017 — The new ASUS B250 Mining Expert motherboard supports up to 19 graphics cards, so it’s perfect for blockchain technology implementations. It also features robust power delivery to ensure stability, and it includes new firmware to simplify setup and diagnostics. The result is a motherboard with unmatched capacity, representing decades of ASUS experience in developing unrivaled motherboard technologies.

Because it offers more PCI Express® (PCIe®) slots than any other mining motherboard, the B250 Mining Expert can share more GPUs with the same CPU, memory, and storage. This means that users get a more versatile and powerful solution that enables higher hash rates per machine, providing a better return on their investment.

Running so many graphics cards simultaneously pumps a lot of power through PCI Express channels. To ensure stability and to prevent damage to GPUs, the B250 Mining Expert can draw from up to three power supply units. Each one plugs into a separate 24-pin connector wired to its own block of slots, so users can easily scale up with graphics cards. Unlike other mining setups, using multiple PSUs with the B250 Mining Expert doesn’t require modifications or manual startup sequences. With the B250 Mining Expert, the user simply plugs PCIe extenders into the same power supply as the corresponding slots.

Integrated boot-up diagnostics make it easy to troubleshoot errors with the B250 Mining Expert. During the power-on self-test (POST) process, PCIe Slot State Detection displays the status of each PCIe slot, allowing quick identification of issues with connected GPUs. The results are shown on screen for five seconds by default. Pressing the Pause/Break key keeps the results displayed on screen, if more time is needed to review results.

The B250 Mining Expert firmware includes a special Mining mode that’s activated at the factory, so there’s no need to enter the UEFI BIOS to make changes. Mining mode enables Above 4G Decoding, which is critical for supporting large numbers of graphics cards. It also disables the Launch CSM, allowing the motherboard and graphics UEFIs to synchronize with each other. Mining mode automatically sets the PCIe interface to run at Gen 1 speeds. Dialing back the link speed improves compatibility and stability without compromising hash rates, because it helps prevent issues that may result from the use of extension cables that are needed to connect multiple cards to a single motherboard.
