Live in a gadget-filled basement that sucks 90 per cent of the power from the local grid? If so, it's time to dig out a shirt and tie (or just a nice pair of slacks) as HEXUS is hiring!
We're on the hunt for a News Writer who is seriously passionate about technology. Professional writing experience isn't necessary - though it can't do any harm - as we're ideally looking for someone who is committed, hard working, and able to write clear, concise articles that explain the latest technology developments in plain English.
Familiarity with everything from motherboards to silicon photonics would be a bonus, but really, it's equally important that you be willing and eager to learn on the job - and yes, it's fun, but it's hard work, too.
Think you're up for the challenge? Here's what you need:
- Passion for technology and the Internet in general (seriously, if you're on dial-up this isn't the job for you).
- Willingness to travel. The HEXUS offices are located in Borehamwood, England and you'll frequently pay visits to the bright lights of the city (that's London, not Wolverhampton) so it'll help to be situated nearby. That means UK residents only.
- Dedication. Writing about technology may seem like fun (who are we kidding, it is!) but it's also hard work. We take it seriously and you should too. Be prepared to spend hours fact-checking, finding stories, making contacts and reporting breaking news.
- Natural flair for writing. You don't have to have written for Le Monde (in fact you don't need any professional experience at all), but you should take pride in publishing articles on site a visited by millions of people each month.
- Team player. The experienced HEXUS editorial team is full of bright minds and colourful characters, so you'll need to be able to heed our advice and follow instructions. When we say one sugar and milk... (we kid!).
Certain you've got what it takes? Here's what to do:
- Write two sample news articles that are relevant to HEXUS.net. You can cover any area of technology, but know that we're looking for a combination of knowledge, accuracy, wit and authority.
- Tell us a bit about yourself - who are you, what makes you passionate about technology, what do you like about HEXUS, what do you dislike (be nice), and most importantly how much time can you dedicate to the news-writer position?
