The Board and Setup
For full details of the board see our in house review here. Heres a quick picture to refresh your memory.
Equipment Used
- DFI NB80-EA motherboard
- P4 2.4b CPU
- 2 Sticks of XMS DDR3500 RAM CAS2
- ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
- 2 x 80GB WD 8MB Cache Hard Drives on Raid 0
- 1 x 65GB Maxtor ATA100 Hard Drive on SATA
- Vapochill Cooling
The P4 2.4b uses a default 133Mhz FSB and runs a 1.50v vcore. This particular P4 2.4b will only accept a small overclock without increasing the vcore voltage.
Looking in the NB80's bios revels vcore adjustments of either +5% or +10%. This means that the vcore can be raised to 1.65v, not enough to get the Vapochil working and certainly not enough to get this chip above 3Ghz. This called for some drastic action. Using an old trick from the Abit TH7-II days we tried the vidpin mod which hopefully will change the default vcore to either 1.7v, 1.8v or 1.825v depending on the number of pins joined.
