Dell has launched a new Android tablet called the Dell Venue 10 7000. This is an interestingly designed tablet which is aimed at mobile office workers. It sports the latest Android for Work security and profiles and a specially designed detachable keyboard as well as featuring an Intel Realsense depth camera.

The Dell Venue 10 7000 is a very thin tablet, measuring around 6.2mm thick for the main part – that's not including the cylindrical part. Dell says that the cylinder makes it easy to hold, carry and secure the keyboard dock. It also makes a good location for the MaxxAudio Mobile by Waves stereo speakers.

Specifications of the Dell Venue 10 7000 tablet are as follows:

  • Screen: 10.5-inch OLED 2560x1600 display
  • Processor: quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 SoC
  • RAM: 2GB LPDDR3
  • Storage: 16GB to 32GB eMMC
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/c, Bluetooth 4.0 and Miracast
  • Camera: Intel RealSense snapshot depth camera
  • Ports: microSD, micro-AB USB 2.0 port, headphone/mic combo jack
  • Battery: 7,000mAh for up to 7 hours life
  • OS: Android 5.0, Lollipop with Android for Work profiles
  • Accessories: magnetic backlit keyboard

With the keyboard in play Dell says that the Venue 10 7000 tablet offers five modes; tablet, slate, stand, tent or clamshell.

The new Android for Work platform allows users to separate their business and personal information and let them securely coexist on the device. Dell explains that "Business data is separated and encrypted, so important corporate data is not accessible to personal applications." As a bonus for system admins "The platform leverages multi-user support in Android to create a managed profile with its own set of secure applications that can be provisioned and controlled by IT and wiped remotely without touching personal data." Dell will also be bundling Microsoft Office for Android with the tablet.

The Dell Venue 10 7000 tablet is said to offer the best of productivity and entertainment in a design that will turn heads. Given that goal, and the inclusion of the Intel Realsense camera, this is one of Dell's most expensive tablets at $499. To buy a tablet with a keyboard bundle will cost $629. US, Canadian and Chinese customers will be able to purchase one of these tablets from May onwards.

dell it is ur good effort on looks as olwaz but for a office guy its battery still not going to work.
u alwaz hav 2 carry charger.
Expensive for what it is.
I quite like the style, but I'm not a fan of android.
Pricing is a little awkward. At that point you could buy a Surface 3 which is arguably a far more capable machine. When you include the cylinder, the Surface is more or less as thin (2mm, do you care?). It has longer battery life (10 vs 7), full Windows, proper USB port and larger base storage.

The only pros I can see are the display, which is frankly beautiful, possibly better speakers and the realsense camera which is gimmicky. Speaking as a 3D vision expert, and even though I'm fairly biased and excited by it, I don't see it getting much use by most customers. The Venue 8 is better value for money I think, although it has the front facing camera in the most unflattering position imaginable.
