Chinese telecoms company ZTE has confirmed its 7in V9A Android tablet will be released in the UK shortly.

The company’s first own-branded tablet is called the Light Tab II and runs on a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. It operates on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and sports a 7in 1,024x600 LCD display with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS and an FM radio.

The Light Tab II has 512MB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage (can be expanded to 32GB), a microSD card slot, a micro-USB port, and a 3500mAH battery, which lasts for 5.5 hours. Measuring 12.6mm thick and weighing 402g, it also comes equipped with a three megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front-facing one.

The Light Tab II is priced at £235 and will be available to buy shortly.

"We are very excited about its entry into the market. We plan to continue our progress in the UK, introducing ZTE branded consumer devices with key capabilities at reasonable prices," said ZTE's director of mobile device operations.

He added: "Our UK strategy is very much focused on providing quality devices."

This is an epic fail from me. This tablet hasn't got Honeycomb or ICS, so how are Android tablets supposed to penetrate the Tablet market when manufactures keep releasing Gingerbread OS devices in Tablet form.

I purchased the keyboard less Asus Transformer (TF101) in November last year for £279 after cash back. This is a cracking device and soon to be upgraded to ICS. All tablets need to get onto ICS ASAP then App developers will start to get fully behind the Tablet platform.

Why can't ZTE release these devices with ICS!!!!!!

Becasue ICS is still a bug filled beta.
This is a step in the right direction, well done Archos, info below taken from:

The new spec Archos G9 tablets are available for pre-order on Amazon, due for release on 1st March.

These have an upgraded CPU as well as 1Gb RAM as opposed to the 512Mb the originals carried and will also include the ICS Android 4.0 operating system.

This look yummy indeed. I like. No thrill design, but good spec and price. Could be my first tablet… My one concern would be the after support from Archos in case of software glitches.
