Three announced today that the USA has now become one of four new roaming destinations for its Feel At Home customers. This scheme allows customers to use their UK data, text and calling allowance whilst abroad, at no extra cost. This innovative scheme will save Three customers from international roaming charges providing they travel to one of the 11 countries covered.
The four new destinations revealed today also include the USA, Indonesia, Sir Lanka and Macau, together with other countries such as Republic of Ireland, Australia, Italy, Austria, Hong Kong, Sweden and Denmark that the scheme already operates in.
The service automatically activates when handsets packing a Three SIM enter any of these countries and picks up a local network. The Feel At Home package enhancement is for all Three customers; whether you are a PAYG customer, a contract customer, a Mobile Broadband customer or even a Business customer. This, for a lot of travellers, will open up the option to use mapping and navigation services as well as simple fuss-free staying connected with friends and family back home.
Chief Executive of Three Dave Dyson said that “Adding the USA to the mix is great news for our customers and shows our commitment to giving them the best experience in what is a popular destination. We plan to add more countries to the mix soon.”
Being the only mobile operator offering same in-country mobile rates abroad with no extra charges, Three is glad to announce reports of a rise in its total active customers since the launch of Feel At Home and the 321 PAYG tariff; increasing its customer base by nearly 300,000 new customers (nearly 10 per cent).
There’s often a downside to new offers, and in this case, customers who exceed their usage allowance in their price plan will still be charged, but that will be at a reduced roaming rate. Those who make calls to non-UK numbers will also incur charges at the full roaming rates and tethering is not supported as part of the scheme.
If you are planning on a winter holiday this season, this could be what you’re looking for to add enjoyment to your trip without the worrying about your phone bill. Also as we reported a couple of months ago Three is due to turn on its 4G services in London, Birmingham and Manchester this month and 4G will be freely available to any customers without need of a contract upgrade.
