It seems like only yesterday Samsung was busy rolling-out its first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III. However, the firm already has its sights set on the future and wants to get there fast.

A popular suite of apps for the Galaxy Note products, known as 'Premium Suite', has been deployed and is already heading to Galaxy S III devices as we speak, along with Android 4.1.2. You'll find the following new features bundled within the update:

  • Page Buddy - Automatic move to a page upon earphone insertion and other actions for quick music access
  • Contextual Menu - Option to rearrange app lists to show most used first, either on the main menu or in drop-downs
  • Contextual Tag - Images automatically tagged with date, place and weather
  • Multi Window - Array of apps that can be viewed in split-screen, accessed through a slide-out menu
  • AutoShare ShotPairing using NFC - Links devices at tap so that a photo taken on one phone is instantly shared with another
  • Reader Mode - Kindle-like Article Mode, prioritises text layout and readability on webpages
  • Facebook Lock Ticker - Access Facebook newsfeeds from the lock screen

What's more is, this isn't all the firm has to offer, however we'll have to stay tuned for the next video. Samsung is believed to be holding back some features, as well, for the Android 4.2 update that is due early next year. Not a bad deal S III owners.

I reckon 4.2 will be the last update though for S3 owners.

Fingers crossed though that S3, Note 2 and Note 10.1 owners will get further updates.

I'd be surprised if it was. The note 1 was released on 2.3, got 4.0.3 and has 4.1 on the way. Samsung seem pretty good on keeping phones up to date for two years now (although it does take them longer to release on older phones).
“Premium” suite? I wouldn't exactly be bothered if I never got any of these features on a phone.

Praying that 4.2 isn't the last update - given past experience I'd kind of hope that there'd be at least one major update for the S3 after the SIV comes out. And yes, given I've got an S3 and a Note10.1 (damn you Tesco discounting and Samsung cash back offers!) I've got fingers and toes crossed that they're going to be supported with updates right through 2013.

Phew, thought it was just me - the whole lot struck me as a bit “meh”. Heck, the headphone thing I've almost got now - because it gives me the option to select from a list of apps when I plug 'phones in.

Just got a Note 10.1 from Tesco last night with that nice discount, plus wifes staff discount and then £50 cash back from Samsung. £231 seems like a good deal to me :-)
