Catching a glimpse
Motorola's Atrix handset has been spotted on Expansys' website fleetingly with a July release date.
The spot was made by Pocket Lint and the details have since disappeared, but the smartphone was reportedly listed for £474.99 for an unlocked handset.
It seems that the disappearance of the information is either due to it being on the money and ruining a big Motorola announcement, or completely wrong (it has happened before).
Expansys has recently listed the price and release dates of a host of handsets that made their debut at MWC, including HTC's Facebook phones, the eagerly awaited ‘PlayStation phone' and LG's 3D offering.
If the listed price is true, Motorola's powerful dual-core handset would be cheaper than Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play handset, which will apparently cost £514.99 PAYG and LG's Optimus 3G phone which should set consumers back £519.99, according to Expansys.
However, it is believed that Motorola's offering will possibly attract business users rather than consumers after a gaming phone or 3D handset.
While £474.99 is a significant outlay, Motorola's Atrix packs 2 1GHz processors, high resolution display, 1GB of RAM and is powered by Android.
Motorola has also interestingly previously said that the smartphone can be transformed into a powered netbook. There's a ‘laptop dock' loaded with Firefox as well as all the phone's functions available on a laptop-sized screen.
Orange is apparently the only network that has confirmed it will be stocking the Atrix at the moment, although there is no news of an official release date or pricing details.
Motorola has not really made a big impact in the European mobile handset market since its Razr handset of 2004 so it will be interested to see how the Atrix is received by Brits.
