Hello Android
US handset maker Motorola has launched its first phone to use Google's Android operating system, in a move that it hopes will revive its fortunes, having consistently lost market share over the past five years.
The DEXT (or CLIQ if you live in the US) is a touchscreen smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Motorola is positioning it as the ultimate social networking accessory and has developed a piece of software called MOTOBLUR that syncs everything from services like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail etc.
The first of a range of Android phones, Motorola hopes DEXT will capitalise on the growing desire for end users to be constantly socialising and documenting their every waking moment.
"Today's mobile phone needs to be more than just ‘smart', it needs to be social," said Ralf Gerbershagen, VP and GM of Motorola Western Europe. "The DEXT is such a phone, offering the ability to funnel your entire social life into a single stream."
It will launch exclusively with Orange in the UK in October, but there price doesn't seem to have been announced yet.. Here are some specs and a photo of the US version.
