Graphics, sound, conclusion

Although there is a sprawling environment to explore you won’t find much to do away from the main town, the barren wasteland is void of things to do apart from collecting the scattered bonus points or when you're locked in a race; in fact it almost feels unfinished.

Graphically, the environment fails to capture the polish of the movie, the pastoral shades of the barren landscape are easy on the eye and the cut-scenes are adequately illustrated, but it could have been pushed far more than it has been in a bid to match the superb design of the film. By far the best animations are the cars themselves, they’ve managed to capture the characters well and even intricate details such as their eyes moving from side to side when you twist and turn have been included.

The music within the game ranges from country and western to rock; it’s fairly random and doesn’t flow alongside the gameplay. The upbeat tunes should have been used for the races to create excitement, and the slower melodies for when you're exploring the map. The voice-acting is the highlight of the audio experience and injects the game with some much needed humour.

For those kids who have never played a racing game and those fans of the film there’s enough within the game to ensure that you’ll have a good time, including unlockable movie clips and characters, and even having the chance to spray paint your car with one of the designs on offer. Other than that it’s a fairly average movie spin-off.

Pros

Fun for kids
Unlockable content
Clips from the movie
Voice acting

Cons
Racing isn't particularly challenging
Camera angles
Free wandering envrionment could have been utilised more.

Strictly for kids, CARS is often fun, but lacks the excitement and thrills of the movie.
