Worth the dosh?

Conclusion
In summary; there are a few things we’d change about the AX Pro. We’ve been using wireless headsets for our Xbox 360 and PS3 for sometime, so switching back to a headset where you need to plug in a power cord feels a little restrictive. We’d also put the volume control on our headset because it’s easier to access without having to take your eyes from the screen. However, in defense of Mad Catz, it’s fair to say that you do need this inline volume control because it hosts extra functionality. We’d also integrate the mic rather than having it clip into the headset; though that is a personal preference.

Set-up is quite fiddly and there are a lot of cables to manage, but it is worth the effort once you get it all set-up. Despite its size, this is a comfortable headset to wear for long periods of play. The ability to control game and voice volume independently also serves to make team-based gaming a more team-focused experience no longer affected by noisy explosions and gun-fire. The decoder box is also a real innovation that elevates your sound experience to a new level by allowing you to fine-tune your speakers to suit what you’re playing and how you want to play. It’s the sound, however, that elevates the AX Pro above all of the gaming headsets we’ve used before. With an RRP of £149, the TRITTON AX Pro is a relatively expensive headset, but as soon as you put them over your ears and fire them up they really do feel like good value for money.

The Good

Solid build, looks impressive.
Delivers high quality sound and chat

Decoder offers an unprecedented amount of control over your sound

The Bad

Lengthy set-up
Cable management needed to tuck away all the wires
It’s not wireless

Thanks for the review!!

I was trying to get hold of one of these about a year ago, but the only place that had them in stock then was over in the States, so I ended up with the Roccat Kave 5.1 headset. The Kave is good, but the 5.1 audio still doesn't match the old Speedlink Medusas I had (the new ones don't match those either), and I've been searching high and low to find a set that has great audio quality, and great 5.1 implementation as well.
If/when the Kave gives up the ghost, I shall be looking for this set (and hopefully UK suppliers will have it available!).

Cheers

Roo

EDIT: I would only be using it for the PC and would have expected you to try this on some PC games, too, TBH - have you an update on that front?
