Microsoft has released a new video showcasing the use of the Xbox One and its dashboard from “Xbox on” to “Xbox off” and many things in between. During the video we can hear a lot of voice commands being used to control the dashboard, start and pause games, videos and TV as well as sharing and multitasking.

In the video ‘Archie Earnest’ does the following:

He turns on the Xbox One using a voice command “Xbox on”. Then he is welcomed by name and logged into his own Xbox One Microsoft account on that console. Archie looks at a movie (again initiated by a voice command) and then decides to check his activity feed, a kind of notifications hub. A notification pops up about Titanfall being ready to play, perhaps it had been downloading in the background. Archie decides to join a game his friends are playing. During the game Archie records a bit of footage and shares it with friends.

Next we see a glimpse of live TV functionality on the Xbox One dashboard. The command “Snap Internet Explorer” opens a browser window to the right of the TV show. After a bit of browsing a Skype video call comes in from a friend and Archie decides to head out – but not before he says “Xbox off”.

Microsoft has put together a nice advert for the Xbox One which you may have seen this weekend. If not, please take a gander below.

Jonathan Ross joins Microsoft Studios as executive producer

Talkshow host and gamer Jonathan Ross has joined Microsoft Studios as an “executive producer working with a number of Xbox teams in the UK,” reveals EuroGamer. In his part-time position Ross will help “broaden the concept of gaming to maybe blur the distinctions about what is a traditional game and what is a traditional television programme and what is traditional linear media,” according to Microsoft exec.

This isn’t the first time Ross has worked with Microsoft/Xbox, previously he was the voice of ‘Unnamed Marine’ in Halo 3 on the Xbox 360.

Can't see anything in the videos that would have me dashing out to get an XBone - yes, it's all very clever and all…

Re: Wossie announcement - methinks there is a hint of desperation in this “announcement”. And since when did he become an expert in what we, the punters, want from games? I'd be more interested if it was someone like Jason Bradbury from the Gadget Show to be honest. As it stands, this strikes me as an empty “celebrity endorsement” nothing more. Also noteworthy that Sony don't seem to feel the need to do the same…
Ross is enough to tip the balance in Sony's favour IMO… lol

Pretty much, yup.

Not sure I'll buy the Sony either, but the Ross announcement reduced whatever minimal chance there was of me buying the XBO, to considerably less than minimal. If I had been planning on buying, it would certainly have made me reevaluate that. All they need to do now is recruit Brand and it absolutely seals the XBO as an XBnono for me.

+1 on that absolutely.

This might backfire a bit on Microsoft - comments like “oh, so it's a ‘meeja’ box that also can play games?” along with Microsoft's emphasis on the media hub could lead to wrong perceptions - e.g. the reason that they're bigging up the media aspects is that the PS4 is the better games console.

Just wish someone would do an XBox style controller for the PS4 - that'd make me look at it seriously.
Wich movie was that after gameplay, please tell me the name, wanna watch it. :D
