Microsoft has confirmed that from today it will not undertake repairs to original Xbox consoles unless they're under warranty.

The new policy, which can be read in full on Xbox.com, states that its technical support helpline will still be available and a troubleshooting guide can still be found on the official site.

The policy states:

On March 2, 2009, technical support documents and content will be available online. Our Web sites will host a wealth of previous and new how-to, troubleshooting, and configuration content that has been revised and updated to meet our customer needs and current support model.

If you have an Original Xbox console that is in Warranty that requires a repair, you will be able to submit an exchange request for an upgrade to an Xbox 360 gaming console online.

Disappointing for XBox owners, but no great surprise I guess. There's a limit to how long any company will support old products.
Do these things actually break then, I was under the impression they would still work after a nuclear holocaust.

I've dropped mine several times and it's still going strong. I wouldn't want to do that to my 360, something tells me it may not be quite as robust.
Yeh they are probably the most solid console you will own, i was really annoyed when microsoft failed to pass that on with the 360 as i dont see how it wasnt able to apart from design which IMO id rather have a black box than a good looking thinner box :P.
MS rushed the 360 to market… It probably has a qtec psu :p
