Target Technology claim patent infringement

Target Technology Co, a designer and supplier of corrosion resistant thin film alloys for optical disc applications, is suing three of Sony's subsidiaries over their Blu-Ray discs, including SCEA themselves.

The news of the lawsuit is being reported on IPlay360.com, who say that the company are suing because Sony's Blu-ray disc infringes on their patent. According to the site, "Sony's Blu-ray Discs "embody" its patented invention for a silver-based alloy thin film used as a coating layer for optical discs."

Target are seeking damages and an injunction on Sony to prevent them from infringing on the patent.

Sony are yet to publically reply to the lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday this week

Hmmm, unless it's exactly the same alloy, or a very, similar one with only mild differences element proportion, I doubt they'd have a case.
