Paradox Interactive has announced a single-player story-driven RTS called Ancient Space is due out on Windows PC and Apple Mac this autumn. The game was developed by Creative Forge Games. "Ancient Space is a single-player, real-time strategy title that puts the player in command of a fleet conducting a scientific mission on the edge of the known universe, charting what lies beyond in ‘The Black Zone.’," Paradox said in a press release.

With regard to Ancient Space's gameplay, the game will allow players to "build, maintain, upgrade, and strategically command a multitude of ships in tactical battles and missions," whilst fighting off aliens, pirates and "the unknown".

The developers focus the game entirely on single-player content, with none of the online multiplayer components which are usually found in modern RTS games. Paradox promises that Ancient Space will have a "rich and compelling" storyline, where players will be guided as they build and upgrade their fleets in order to survive the odds in "deadly strategic missions."

In order to give the game even more sci-fi geek appeal, making it more convincing and 'realistic', the publisher has taken on actors from popular sci-fi films and television shows to voice several characters in the game.

Sci-Fi celebrities featured in the game include the following:

  • John Billingsley (Star Trek: Enterprise, True Blood)
  • Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica)
  • Ron Glass (Firefly)
  • Richard Gunn (Dark Angel)
  • Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers, Star Trek: Nemesis, Saw)
  • Dwight Schultz (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager)

If you are a PC RTS fan and enjoy Sci-Fi why not have a peek at the announcement video trailer embedded below?

That logo looks familiar….
It's almost exactly the same as the Endless Space one! They really couldn't find anything a bit different? It's not like there are so many of these games around at the moment… v strange.
Endless space was a delight. Mix it with homeworld 2 and you have a mage win!
