In October we first learned about a new Humble Bundle called the Humble Monthly Bundle. It was an interesting concept where gamers paid a subscription fee of $12 to receive a games bundle on the first Friday of the coming month. However, to get on board you have to pay in advance of the announcement of the bundle contents - other than an 'order bonus' game. So it’s a bit like buying a mystery tour or a lucky dip gift ticket. The first ever Humble Monthly Bundle shipped on Friday at 11am PST (7pm in the UK).
The following titles made up the first Humble Monthly Bundle:
- Saints Row 4
- Besiege
- Valkyria Chronicles
- Lethal League
- Sanctuary RPG
- Towerfall: Ascension
- Legend of Grimrock 2
All the above are well regarded games titles and still sell for a pretty penny on their own. For example Legend of Grimrock 2 is listed at £17.99, Valkyria Chronicles is £14.99, Saints Row 4 and TowerFall Ascension are listed at £10.99 (all prices from Steam today). So your $12 (roughly £8) has been well spent in terms of value on the first ever monthly bundle.
Humble Monthly Bundles already contain duplicates
A potential problem with a mystery games bundle is in receiving games you are completely uninterested in and/or games that you already own. Oddly the Humble Bundlers are inflicting the duplicate games problem on those you have only just received the first ever monthly bundle. The 'order bonus' game for the December bundle is TowerFall: Ascension – this was part of last month's bundle reveal… People who subscribed with a view to being regular subscribers might find this an odd decision.
Now the Humble Bundle team has started the countdown for the next monthly bundle. At the time of writing you have 25 days and 7 hours (decide before 4th December). Are you tempted?
