In October we first learned about a new Humble Bundle called the Humble Monthly Bundle. It was an interesting concept where gamers paid a subscription fee of $12 to receive a games bundle on the first Friday of the coming month. However, to get on board you have to pay in advance of the announcement of the bundle contents - other than an 'order bonus' game. So it’s a bit like buying a mystery tour or a lucky dip gift ticket. The first ever Humble Monthly Bundle shipped on Friday at 11am PST (7pm in the UK).

The following titles made up the first Humble Monthly Bundle:

  • Saints Row 4
  • Besiege
  • Valkyria Chronicles
  • Lethal League
  • Sanctuary RPG
  • Towerfall: Ascension
  • Legend of Grimrock 2

All the above are well regarded games titles and still sell for a pretty penny on their own. For example Legend of Grimrock 2 is listed at £17.99, Valkyria Chronicles is £14.99, Saints Row 4 and TowerFall Ascension are listed at £10.99 (all prices from Steam today). So your $12 (roughly £8) has been well spent in terms of value on the first ever monthly bundle.

Humble Monthly Bundles already contain duplicates

A potential problem with a mystery games bundle is in receiving games you are completely uninterested in and/or games that you already own. Oddly the Humble Bundlers are inflicting the duplicate games problem on those you have only just received the first ever monthly bundle. The 'order bonus' game for the December bundle is TowerFall: Ascension – this was part of last month's bundle reveal… People who subscribed with a view to being regular subscribers might find this an odd decision.

Now the Humble Bundle team has started the countdown for the next monthly bundle. At the time of writing you have 25 days and 7 hours (decide before 4th December). Are you tempted?

Some good games there (Valkyria Chronicles is absolutely excellent) but I still don't like this idea. I might have picked this up if I could have ordered it seen but unseen - no thanks (duplicates - games I don't want). Just because its good this month doesn't mean it's good next month. Hope they rethink this and just put this much effort into a regular bundle!
Thank god I didn't sign up. I already have most of the games, this would only make me cringe on the wasted money.
Even if I gave the duplicated games away to friends, it would still leave a somewhat sour taste.
Will keep just purchasing the bundles I am interested on.

I don't think you even get duplicate games to give away from humble anymore, if you already have the game then the new version just disappears into oblivion.
It's a nice idea, but it's too much a month for random games which you probably dont want. You can get massive savings on games if you use the price comparison sites. Register your steam wishlist and they email you when the price hits the level you choose. If you just want to give money to charity and dont want anything back, then just give it.

I may be wrong but that may only be for the Origin packs
