We’ve seen plenty of hardware teardowns before. Even the Nvidia SHIELD handheld console has been subject to at least one of these technological autopsies before. Now Nvidia has published a video which is a bit different from their usual SHIELD promotional bulletin; it’s a product teardown video featuring three ‘country boys’ (?) and left over 4th July firecrackers.
The three ‘technicians’ drill a hole in an Nvidia SHIELD on a table in front of their porch, place an ‘explosive charge’ inside, step back and set it off. Luckily they do have some technological help, in the form of a slow motion video camera, which enabled the video editor to subsequently label the various electronic components as they were propelled from the explosive fire and smoke cloud.
The following parts were ‘identified’ by the Nvidia technicians in the slowmo explosion video; the Tegra 4 processor, 5-inch touchscreen, buttons, thumbstick, battery, memory modules and the green plastic thing.
The Nvidia SHIELD is still only available in the US and Canada right now (at $299) so this kind of video, probably looking to ‘go viral’, looks to be aimed at these territories. A report from August said that the new Nvidia console outsold Sony’s PS Vita in North America this summer.
