Ubisoft has confirmed that three of its major titles, due for release this holiday season, are not currently planned for release via Valve's digital distribution platform - Steam - in the UK. The affected titles include Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed: Unity and The Crew. These are, coincidentally, the same three games titles which are options in Nvidia's Pick Your Path bundle.

"We've been in discussions with Valve about Assassin's Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK," a Ubisoft representative told PCGamesN. "In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors."

USA affected too?

IGN has reported that the three games have since been removed from the US Steam store too, but the site is still waiting to hear back from the publisher as to whether the removal affects all regions. Although it is unclear what the reason behind the Ubisoft games' absence on Steam is, speculation revolves around Steam game pricing, which rarely tops £40. The relatively high price tags at £50 could be the main cause of the trio of Ubisoft games' absence in the UK Steam Store.

However, GameSpot points out that some games tend to not appear on the Steam platform due to legal reasons. It also reminded us of EA's removal of some of its games back in 2011, due to disagreements over DLC royalty rates.

The trio of games are Ubisoft's potential biggest hitters during the crucial holiday period this year, with Assassin's Creed: Unity coming to the UK on 11 Nov, Far Cry 4 being released on 21 Nov, followed by The Crew on 2 Dec. Below is a new Far Cry 4 trailer, released to showcase Nvidia GameWorks graphics quality for the game on modern Nvidia GPU powered PCs.

Makes sense, there's been no point getting a UBI game through Steam for a while, just annoying with double DRM/launch.

Makes sense, there's been no point getting steam to pay them 70% of the sale price on game and DLC when they can have 100% all to themselves.

FTFY. Also, £50 for a game, Ubisoft? What on Earth are you smoking?

What's wrong with that? 20 years ago games cost £45 or so. In real terms £50 is still cheaper.

20 Years ago games weren't broken on release.
20 Years ago unit sales were much lower
20 Years ago there wasn't the tools available to create content easily
20 Years ago they weren't throwing out yearly map-packs and calling them a full product

I could go on……

Some were.

True. Then again, development and support costs were much lower too.

20 Years ago there wasn't the tools available to create content easily
And you didn't need them either - modern environment is far more diverse and complicated, requiring use of those tools.

Neither are they today.
