MSI has unveiled what it claims to be "the world's first gaming laptop with a mechanical keyboard". The laptop in question is called the MSI GT80 Titan. It is an 18-inch screened desktop replacement style gaming laptop and the headlining keyboard is a SteelSeries gaming model which employs Cherry Brown MX switches.
We are told that MSI has chosen to integrate a mechanical keyboard into this 18-inch gaming laptop because such input peripherals "provide superior tactile feedback, increases durability, and enhances overall gaming experience by eliminating key jamming even during the most heated battle sessions".
You might be surprised to hear that the switches and keycaps used are the standard ones you would find on a desktop keyboard. Thus the keycap height is nearly five times that of a standard laptop key or tile, at 27mm. However MSI has managed to keep the thickness of its GT80 Titan to minimum as it is in fact "the world's slimmest and lightest 18-inch gaming laptop, measuring 17% thinner and 22% lighter than its closest competitor". At this time MSI isn't revealing the full specs of the GT80 Titan so we don't have any numbers to put to its thinnest and lightest claims.
Andy Tung, president of MSI Pan America talked about the new gaming laptop, "Performance is key for gamers and the GT80 Titan will forever change the mobile gaming experience," he claimed. "The GT80 Titan blends the performance of a high-end gaming desktop with the mobility of a laptop".
Unfortunately MSI didn't share any further specs of the GT80 Titan. The dedicated webpage shares even less information than the email HEXUS received from MSI, but we are told that the computer is "coming soon".
