See what I did there? Corsair... Voyager... port...? Oh, forget it.
Corsair has expanded its high speed USB flash drive line with a new Flash Voyager model, packing in 8GiB of storage. That's room for 2048 4MiB mp3s, says Corsair (and the company's maths checks out), or about 2500 digital photos taken at 6 mega pixels. Or, it's room for Windows, providing you can boot from it (the methods are out there, people, go in search!) or a tonne of 'on the go' applications.
The Flash Voyager also comes with security software that creates a hidden, password protected partition on the device, as is common on quite a few flash drives these days. According to Corsair "The password is encrypted with 256bit AES encryption, the most secure encryption algorithms [sic] available".
All of Corsair's Flash Voyagers are encased in a rubbery substance, possibly rubber, designed to make them less susceptible to damage and even water resistant. Just don't drop one on a hard floor or it'll bounce away, never to be seen again.
They're quick at transfers as well as quick on their feet. Using dual channel technology, data can be read at 31MB/s and written at 16MB/s. So that's 4.4 minutes to read the full 8GiB, or 8.5 minutes to fill it up.
Retail prices should be around $155 in the US. Get more details on the Corsair website.
