Heatpipe Heaven
While browsing the Taiwan pavilion in Hall 22, we came across a small company called Comptake that produces some interesting heat-pipe-based coolers.
Of particular interest was a Northbridge cooler - an all-copper, folded-fin design that uses a single heat-pipe. The AS-N1000, presently marketed under the Antazone brand, measures a sizeable 55x56.8x80mm and is said to be compatible with all motherboards due to its universal mounting kit. Its relatively large surface area is reckoned to mean that the AS-N1000 can run passive with motherboards based on any of today’s core-logic assuming a reasonable amount of air-flow is present in the case.
Also on show was a twinheat-pipe-based VGA cooler,
the AS-V1000, and a triple-heat-pipe-based CPU
cooler, the AS-C1000 (as shown below along
with AS-N1000 installed into a system ). Both coolers are also provided
with universal mounting kits and, between them, are said to
support all current ATI and
NVIDIA VGA cards and Intel and AMD CPUs. The VGA or CPU coolers may
need fans assist with cooling higher-end
parts, Comptake does do models suitably equipped
with low-noise fans.
To demonstrate its manufacturing prowess (or perhaps simply to try its
hand at modern art), Comptake also had on display what is perhaps the
biggest heat-pipe I’ve ever seen - taking the form of a
slightly
twisted tree.
