Analysts from CNN money.com have speculated over the price of the upcoming next gen console, the Playstation 3. The console could retail at around $499 in the U.S, which converts to approximately £280 in the U.K. An Xbox 360 can be picked up for $399 dollars in the states but costs £270 in the U.K. Therefore, if CNN have calculated correctly, it's very likely that the U.K will see the console retail at around £350.
The reason for the high prices could be due to the Blu-Ray technology, apparently Pioneer showcased a stand alone Blue-Ray player for a whopping price of $1800 at last week's Consumer electronics show.
On Monday American Technology Researcher P.J McNealy said, " Sony could now consider launching its PlayStation 3 at a price range of $399 to $499, with the $499 price point more likely". Some developers have even said that the price could be as much as $700.
Sony have declined to comment on the recent speculation and the confirmed price is unlikely to be announced until E3 in May.
