The search giant is at it again, this time producing a J2ME application for mobile phones which allows users to access Google Local.
Google Local for mobile works almost exactly like the web based Google Local we're used to using in the web browser of our desktop PC, but with interface tweaks to make it more suitable for phone usage. Providing you have a supported phone, you can request a text message from Google with a download link to the application. Once downloaded and installed you're ready to go.
Impressively, you still get directions to and from places, along with draggable and zoomable maps. In fact, you can even view satellite imagery of the places you want to find.
Google Local on the move could prove to be a powerful tool for mobile users, particularly the businessman, who, along with the computer geeks, will be most likely to use this new app first, but as a wider range of phones become supported, an increasing number of people will have the opportunity to take it for a spin. What next, Google on your iPod?
