Introduction
Cast your mind back a few weeks, just before HEXUS whizzed off to Ibiza for the launch of the new range of ATI Radeon products. The day before HEXUS flew out we published a HEXUS.snapshot, looking at the SCAN 3XS Chameleon. And what a system to leave behind barely hours before I had to catch my flight to Europe's party capital. We made merry back in June with a peek at the development process for the 3XS Chameleon. Powered by AMD Athlon 64 FX-57, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI (512MiB boards no less) and a nice disk array, the clad-in-£1000-of-paintwork Chameleon stood proud as one of the most over-the-top systems we'd ever had the pleasure of taking a look at.
Mad as a badger, the SCAN 3XS Chameleon SKU has now been finished. Spec lists have been finalised, warranty options cemented and parts options completed on the project and SCAN are now actively shipping its most extreme PC system as we speak. To celebrate, the chaps and chappettes down near the Reebok Stadium in Bolton put together a 3XS Chameleon for HEXUS that represents pretty much the pinnacle of what the SKU has to offer in terms of performance.
Now powered by an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (dual core and overclocked) and overclocked NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX SLI, the basic canons of performance that we saw in the development 3XS Chameleon have been cemented and improved. Still wearing coats of paint more expensive than a decent spec PC, the fully-loaded Chameleon has been used and abused by us over the course of the last few days.
