According to analytics firm, Flurry, 1.2 billion apps were downloaded during the final week of December, making for a new record high as consumers received new mobile devices for Christmas or looked to spend that little bit of extra cash whilst many applications were on offer.
Figures show that the US was responsible for nearly 50 per cent of app sales, with China and the UK following, far behind.
Country | App Download Count |
US | 509,000,000 |
China | 99,000,000 |
UK | 81,000,000 |
Germany | 40,000,000 |
France | 40,000,000 |
It was suggested that nearly seven million Android and iOS devices were activated on Christmas Day alone and with the exceptional growth continuing, Flurry expects app sales like those seen during the Christmas week to become typical weekly sales figures at some stage during 2012, "looking forward to 2012, Flurry expects breaking the one billion download barrier per week will become more commonplace," the firm announced in its blog.
There have been reports that App Market's have begun to saturate as more and more apps are added, reducing the possibility of high developer returns, however, it's clear from today's figures that consumers are doing their best to keep up with the ever increasing choice of apps.
