Thecus has this week released a new line of "XXX" network-attached storage solutions that it claims will "make you reconsider the way you see the NAS world".
The XXX Series, representing "Xtreme Power, Xtreme Function and Xtreme Value", consists of five new products that each feature a quicker Intel Atom processor, new DDR3 memory and Thecus's revamped operating system, firmware V5.
Kicking off the new range, the dual-bay N2200XXX (pictured above) has its sights set on both SMB and home users and comes equipped with a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor, 1GB of DDR3 memory and a dedicated multi-card reader supporting the SD, SDHC and MMC formats.
Thecus claims the "N2200XXX runs circles around the competition" with transfer speeds of over 100MB/s, and there's plenty to look forward to on the software front, too. Firmware V5 introduces a revised UI, a new Piczza! photo server, support for the EXT4 file system, and a companion ThecusShare app that makes it easy to access your NAS contents from your iPhone or iPad.
Padding out the XXX line, the three-bay N3200XXX and five-bay N5200XXX support up to 9TB and 15TB of storage, respectively, while the 1U4200XXX and N8200XXX target the enterprise with 1U and 2U rackmount form factors.
That's a healthy product refresh all round, but we're surprised Thecus didn't use the Xtreme Power slogan to introduce USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps - both of which can't be far away from filtering through to the NAS ecosystem en masse.
[Update]The N2200XXX and N5200XXX are now available to order from Scan.co.uk* priced at £359.98 and £548.27, respectively.
