Show me your Moves
Although Microsoft's Kinect has seen a vibrant developer community blossom since it launched at the end of last year, Sony's Playstation Move has proved much less popular with the PC crowd.
However, it looks like Sony might soon be giving burgeoning developers a helping hand by releasing official drivers to help hook the motion-sensing peripheral up to a computer. A listing on the GDC 2011 schedule reveals that SCEA's John McCutchan - head of the Game Systems team in Developer Support - will be giving a talk on how to make the most out of Move.
However, it's the last sentence of the description that really piqued our interest. McCutchan will "discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs".
Unfortunately, those are all the details that we have for now, meaning that we're left with a raft of unanswered questions: What is Move Server? What does it have to do with PCs? What level of support will Sony be giving to 'hobbyists' to make the most out of the peripheral on the PC?
To find out the answers, we'll have to wait until March 2 when the presentation is set to take place. However, it looks likely that there'll soon be a Move PC-developer community springing up to give their Kinect counterparts - who might be getting the official nod from Microsoft, by way of an SDK - a run for their money.
Oh, the possibilities.
