While Sony is a giant in the world of consumer electronics, it's Samsung that holds the title of the largest TV-manufacturer on the planet.  However, the two might soon have something in common - Google TV.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung is considering integrating Google TV into its upcoming televisions to provide a better internet experience in the living room.  Sony, of course, is a development partner for the platform, and has plans to introduce the technology in some of its Bravia TVs in time for Christmas.

Google TV is the search-giant's attempt to replicate its online success in the living room.  By integrating the company's search and other services into TVs, it will find ways of generating revenue even when users are away from the computer.  Obviously, this will only be successful if the company is able to create a compelling user-experience that seamlessly enhances TV watching with useful extra features.

As well as TVs, the platform - which is based on Android and will have access to the Android Market - will be integrated into set-top boxes and aims to combine the functionality of a TV and DVR with information on the internet.

This move would seemingly be a boon for both Google and Samsung.  While the former will gain a significant partner to support its nascent platform, Samsung will be able to match a feature offered by one of its major rivals.

The announcement would also strengthen Google's position against Apple's recently relaunched set-top box.  With a competitive price-point, Apple TV could be a major competitor to the Android-powered devices.

I like my TV as it is :/ - I dont want extra software which could potentially randomly lag, crash, freeze etc on my TV (my android phone sometimes struggles to be a phone). However, if this is completely seperate then good, but doubt it.
