ASUS has been producing some rather tasty motherboards of late. HEXUS was impressed by the AMD-based Crosshair IV Formula back in May. The diminutive Rampage III GENE, designed for Intel's X58 platform, caught our eye in July. Now ASUS looks to take much of what it has learned on these red-and-black-coloured boards and bring it all to bear with the Rampage III Formula.

Due to debut soon, the top-of-the-line X58 chipset-based Formula keeps the red-and-black livery intact: nice. We can assume it supports all the latest LGA1366 processors under the sun, including six-core models, and six DIMM slots should be capable of handling DDR3-2,000MHz-plus memory with ease.

There are no full-board shots but it seems certain that the Formula will have three PCIe x16 mechanical slots, making it a home for three-card multi-GPU setups in, we're guessing, a x16/x16/x8 configuration. ASUS will no doubt throw in USB 3.0, SATA 6Gbps, ROG Connect, and a plethora of overclocking goodies, too.

Really, it looks like a larger version of the mATX-sized Rampage III GENE, which is no bad lineage to follow, as it too ships with the 7.1-channel SupremeFX X-Fi v2 audio chip. We reckon it'll come in at £250-£275 in September, and enthusiasts may want to keep a beady eye on the Formula's progression from leaked slides to shipping boards.
