While this may not be the fastest RAM we’ve seen lately, G.Skill’s latest announcement is definitely a big deal in its own right. Aimed squarely at the top end of market, this new 24GB kit comprises six 4GB modules capable of running at a blistering 2,000MHz with CL8 timings.

Trident

Many manufacturers have been trying to woo enthusiasts and power-users by releasing memory capable of blinding speed, and we’ve seen RAM running at 2,500MHz or higher being announced in the past few weeks. However, not as many releases seem to cater to the portion of the market that demands huge capacities with their speed. G.Skill’s latest Trident entry certainly seems to fit that description, though, and manages to run at very impressive clocks considering the capacity of the modules.

RAM

The kit has been rated with a Core i7 930 processor and requires 1.65V to reach speeds of 2,000MHz and timings of 8-9-8-24. Again, these certainly aren’t the fastest memory speeds or tightest timings that we’ve seen. However, managing to run such an epically large amount of RAM with these settings is still an achievement and should satisfy the needs of even the most demanding among us.

For those power-users – or show-offs – who are interested in an extreme RAM upgrade, the memory should be available shortly, though we’re still waiting for a specific release date. We also have no information as to price, but suspect that this kit falls squarely in the category of ‘if you have to ask you probably can’t afford it’.

Looks like it gets quite toasty if it needs active cooling.. but I still want it :D
most of the 2ghz stuff benefits from active cooling I thought?

Thing is I can't help but feel there needs to be a shift in marketing lingo, so that instead of just raw speed, more emphasis is given to the timings.
I thought that tight memory timings were less important with core i7 cpus.

Agreed to both points
Hmmm, that's 6x more than I've got at the moment; but I'm still content.
