The desktop segment has experienced little growth in recent years, but one category that does seem to be doing pretty well right now is all-in-ones (AIO).
Acer has just announced it has updated its Aspire Z series with the latest Intel processors. The Z5700 still offers a Pentium, but now you can also opt for a Core i3 or a Core i5. The higher-specced Z5710 adds the option of a better Core i5 as well as a Core i7, as well as discrete graphics (full specs on the next page.)
This essentially looks like an evolution of the AIO family Acer launched over a year ago. Of course, Windows 7 has been launched since then, and Acer is keen to highlight the ‘revolution' represented by all the multitouch goodness that entails.
Acer has created the TouchPortal, from which you can access various TouchGadgets such as a browser, photo editing software and a music management suite. As with most other AIOs, these are being marketed as multimedia PCs that can be used anywhere in the home. They will be available from 1 August, but Acer has yet to confirm pricing.
