NVIDIA has put recent speculation to an end by confirming that its next-generation graphics cards, based around the company's long-awaited Fermi architecture, will be officially launched on Friday March 26th, 2010.
The announcement once again came via the company's Twitter account, on which it states quite simply that the "launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26".
Setting its sights firmly on its target audience, NVIDIA will launch its new GPUs at the Penny Arcade Expo in Boston - a large-scale LAN party to which participants can attend at a cost of $35 per day.
Despite taking a closer look at the inner workings of Fermi back in October 2009, followed by a brief demonstration of performance early in 2010, NVIDIA remains tight-lipped in regards to final GeForce 400-series specifications.
Providing what could be a first indication of retail pricing, U.S. retailer SabrePC recently listed a 2GB GeForce GTX 480 at a cost of $679.99. The same retailer now also lists a 1GB GeForce GTX 470 at a cost of $499.99.
It's been a long wait, but Fermi is now closer than ever, and we suspect NVIDIA might have something to show at next week's CeBIT trade show.
