We liked the look of ASUS' Eee PC 1201N when the system first broke cover back in September. Today, ASUS has made it official and confirmed that the system will launch in the UK around mid-January with a suggested retail price of £399.
That tidy sum will get you a 12.1in "multimedia netbook" equipped with a 1,366x768 display, a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 processor, up to 3GB of DDR2 memory and an NVIDIA ION chipset sporting GeForce 9400-series graphics.
It's a useful-looking combination, and the system is rounded off with a 250GB hard drive (plus 500GB of online Eee storage), a built-in card reader, integrated webcam, HDMI out and both Wireless N and Bluetooth connectivity. The system ships with Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, and ASUS reckons the default six-cell battery will provide five hours of on-the-go operation.
Measuring 296mm x 208mm x 33.3mm at its thickest point, it's also a fairly sleek solution, weighing in at around 1.46kg. Trouble is, we're expecting Intel to unveil a wave of next-gen Atom processors - codenamed Pineview - in the coming months. Will the dual-core Atom 330 be old news before the Eee PC 1201N makes it to market?
