Taiwanese manufacturer G.Skill has today announced the successor to its Falcon line of solid-state drives (SSDs) introduced back in April.

Dubbed, unsurprisingly, the Falcon II series, G.Skill's new range is initially available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.

Among the upgrades is a new Indilinx ECO controller and the use of 34nm NAND Flash memory. A 64MB cache remains present, and G.Skill quotes read and write speeds of 220MB/s and 110MB/s, respectively, for the 64GB model, and 220MB/s and 150MB/s for both the 128GB and 256GB models.

All three drives ship with the latest Indilinx firmware - complete with support for the Windows 7 TRIM command - and G.Skill backs the drives with a two-year warranty.

There's no mention of pricing just yet, but seeing as G.Skill's quoted read and write speeds are slightly below those of the original Falcon series, we'd assume that the 34nm Falcon II drives will be a little more affordable.

I'd like to see prices for the 64Gb version.
Price should be around US$210 for the 64GB Falcon II SSD.
The Falcon is one of the more affordable Indilinx based SSD drive I've seen in the UK, so here's hoping that this one will get closer to £1.50/GB (I don't think it will - I guess that below £2/GB is currently a good deal already).
Good to see a reduction in fab size. If what it did to Intel's prices is anything to go by - transforming one of the most expensive £/GB drives to one of the cheapest - these could be very well positioned.
Sequential read and write figures are better for advertising,
but until we see the 4k random write figures, its just another drive…
