OCZ is today taking a break from actually launching new solid-state drives (SSDs). Instead, the Sunnyvale, California-based company is just announcing that it will launch new drives around the same time as January's annual CES trade show.
According to the memory and flash-based storage specialist, its next-generation SSDs - developed in collaboration with SandForce - will "be the pinnacle of storage options designed to optimise complex IT infrastructures as well as the computing experiences of everyday consumers".
Bold claims, but OCZ reckons the use of SandForce's SF-1500 and SF-1200 SSD processors and NAND Flash memory will create " excellent reliability and performance coupled with superior total cost of ownership for all our customers".
The good news for the enthusiast is that OCZ's SandForce-based SSD line will be available with a choice of connectivity options - drives will be offered with a standard SATA II interface, or a speedier SATA 6Gb SAS alternative. There's no actual mention of performance figures just yet, but OCZ does tell us that drives will be available with either multi-level cell (MLC) or single-level cell (SLC) NAND Flash memory, and capacities will range from 50GB to 400GB.
Not a whole lot to go on, but OCZ is promising to "take storage to the next level", and it expects SandForce-based products to be announced in the next few weeks, prior to what we hope will be live demonstrations at CES.
