A big yes for Dell's Zino

AMD might not want to play in the strictly portable category of netbooks, but the firm is certainly making itself heard when it comes to mini-desktops.

Tipping up on Dell Ireland's website this mornin' was the Zino HD, a brand spanking new Athlon-powered PC in a small form factor box, with a rainbow variety of customisable skins.

The lean, mean, little nettop machine aims to bring a bit more magic to the top of the table than ye old Intel Atom/Intel chipset combo, instead offering a base model running on a 1.6GHz AMD Athlon 2650E processor with Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics.

The Zino also sports HDMI output, 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 320GB 7,200-RPM hard drive, a DVD burner, 802.11n Wi-Fi, an external Serial ATA port for additional storage, and Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Measuring in at only 7.8" x 7.8" x 3.4" and at a featherweight 3.53 lbs, the Zino HD also lets punters have their own way by letting them customise it with dual-core Athlons, discrete Radeon HD 4330 graphics, Blu-ray, up to a terabyte of storage and up to 8GB of memory.

HEXUS was lucky enough to see the Vision branded Zino HD in action last week at an AMD notebook reviewer's day, and boy did the diminutive box pack a punch when it came to watching HD content on a big screen.

The base model is selling for a very nettop-like €329 in Ireland, but UK and US pricing have yet to be released.

As for seeing the big picture, however, customers will either need to have their own monitor to hook up to, or they could choose to splash out a bit more cash buying one direct from Dell.

If the starting price is under Ā£300, then I reckon they'll sell like hot cakes.
My mother in law needs to get rid of her P4 1.6Ghz XP box, and this could fit the bill nicely :)
Yep, I agree, it's all about pricing and availability (though, what isn't?)
Bundle it with W7 and a remote and they could help make mediaPCs become more mainstream.
Can I be the first to say a “Dell Mac Mini clone” ? ;)
mikerr

It's a box with components in it. Were you expecting a decahedron? :P
This is Dells Mac Mini but with old components i mean common why use the 780G chipset and not 785G for the HD4200.
