A badly-kept secret is that Intel is planning on launching its Lynnfield-based Core i5 and Core i7 processors later this month, if the rumour-mill is to be believed.

The upcoming parts - a 2.66GHz Core i5 750, a 2.80GHz Core i7 860 and a 2.93GHz Core i7 870 - are all packaged as Socket LGA 1156, and they'll launch in unison with Intel's new P55 chipset.

What's interesting is that UK-based retailer Lambda-Tek.com is already listing all three parts, with mention of pricing, too. LambdaTek has the mainstream Core i5 750 priced at £153.79, and the Core i7 860 and Core i7 870 priced at £233.21 and £728.96, respectively.

Although the retailer appears to have jumped the gun, its prices are speculative to say the least. The Core i7 870 seems pricey, and we'd expect - or at least hope - that the Core i5 750 will be priced lower at around £135 to make more sense.

Hmmmm. The pricing of the 870 would make sense if you make the 7 a 4 (coincidentally next to each other on the pad).

Yeah, £700+ has to be a typo, surely ?
Must be a typo, Intel would be shooting themselves in the foot. Even the Core i5 is pricey, but give it a month and it will go down.
Exactly. An introductory price of £428 makes a lot of sense when the i7 940 is ~£400.
Maybe it is the extreme chip with unlocked multi, they charge alot more than the locked chips for these.
