There isn't a shortage of notebooks claiming to be the world's fastest, but joining the list today is Maingear's eX-L 18.
The mammoth notebook, pictured above, laughs in the face of ultra-portables and takes a no holds barred approach to hardware. Inside the eX-L 18 lives a choice of Intel Core 2 processors (right up to a Core 2 Quad Extreme), up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, and up to two GeForce GTX 280M graphics cards.
Elsewhere, there's a choice of storage solutions - including SSDs - and the option to add a Blu-ray optical drive. The latter might be a worthy investment as it'll make full use of the system's 18.4in full-HD display.
Prices start at $2,999 for a basic spec, and sky rocket upward depending on options. As for the claim of being "the world’s most powerful desktop replacement notebook"? Well, it certainly isn't slow, and the dual GPU configuration will serve gamers well, but we reckon a Core i7-based notebook might have the last laugh.
