We've got four laptops all equipped with different processors. HEXUS.PiFast is a single-threaded test - as are most present applications - and relies on clock-speed more than any other factor.

The ASUS U20A's single-core SU2700 does well enough, and it's well, well clear of the budget Atom N270 in the MSI Wind.

Performance is similar to the Athlon Neo in the HP Pavilion dv2 and the dual-core SU9400 in the Acer Timeline.

7-zip's processing engine can take advantage of a maximum of two threads. That's why the dual-core SU9400 steaks ahead, and the HyperThreading present on Atom brings it back into line.

CINEBENCH can take as many cores as you can throw at it. Pentium SU2700 performance, then, is competent for a single-core chip.

The two QuickTime movies are played back via VLC software that doesn't feature GPU-assisted decoding. Even so, the U20A's performance is smooth and stutter-free at 720p - a resolution supported by the 1,280x800 panel.
